“I have hardly ever worked in an Italian-style theatre, with its strict and traditional form. I have mostly crossed paths with creators who believed that it was the drama and not the architecture that was responsible for creating the staging design and the space, in order to intensify the relationship between the audience and the actors”, wrote Jean-Guy Lecat in the introduction to his book entitled One Show, One Audience, One Single Space (bilingual : English-French).
Based on such an idea, Lecat has transformed around two hundred sites in the world into performance spaces (one of his long-term collaborators is Peter Brook). Visual documentation and texts about his numerous projects are included in One Show, One Audience, One Single Space ; the book also features his writings that illuminate concepts and thoughts around his unique practice.
