Invited by the Prague Quadrennial (PQ) 2023, OISTAT Architecture Commission organised an interdisciplinary workshop on the morning of 14 June 2023, in which all the theatre design disciplines represented within OISTAT and at PQ were invited to work together to explore a shared vision for a theatre space, event or performance.
The event took place on the 5th floor of the National Gallery Prague on the floor of the Space Design exhibition.
The architect and theatre designer Dr Dorita Hannah opened the workshop with a very interesting presentation around the statement “Theatre has left the building”. Food for conversation! After that the participants worked 7 multi-disciplinary teams on their vision for theatre space.
Interesting themes that are very topical at the moment were discussed. Freedom of speech, migration and providing shelter for refugees, bridging the divide between poor and rich, black and white people. Be inclusive, what is inclusive? Around these themes and with the opening presentation in mind of course it raised the question “What is theatre space?”
With all the different disciplines and people from different cultures at the tables it was a very inspiring morning with a lot of energy.
