The joint meeting of the Architecture and Research Commissions took place in London over two days on 19th-20th May 2017. The first day consisted of visits to London theatres; Hoxton Hall, Wilton’s Music Hall, Theatre Royal Drury Lane, and the Dorfman at the National Theatre. This was followed by a dinner at the Garrick Club which was kindly organised through Iain Mackintosh.
The second day was a conference hosted by the Victoria & Albert Museum and the Langdon Down Centre and took place at the Normansfield Theatre, Twickenham. The conference was centred around the wonderful collection of nineteenth century theatre scenery and equipment which has been conserved and restored with the assistance of the Heritage Lottery Fund.
The speakers were Ian Jones Healey, Karen Thompson, David Wilmore, Hilary Vernon Smith, Jane Pritchard, Raymond Walker, and Alison Rae (Details of the papers given is on the attached programme)
