The World Costume Festival is One Month Away!

Sep 20, 2016

Mayor Eva Marie S. Medina is proud to announce the World Costume Festival in Vigan, on the northern island of Luzon in the Philippines, 20-23 October 2016. This beautiful Spanish colonial city is situated near to the sea far away from the bustle of Manila. The city of Vigan is honored to host this international event assembling the best costume designers from all over the world, but particularly those from Southeast Asia.

The event happens once every four years and is co-sponsored by the City Government of Vigan, the Sinag Arts Foundation, and the GMA Kapuso Television Network in cooperation with the Costume Design Working Group for OISTAT – The International Organization of Scenographers, Theatre Architects and Technicians.

These are street costumes so they do not have to be from a theatrical production. They can simply grow spontaneously from a fertile mind and creative hands.

For all wonderful costume people, housing will be offered for competitors who represent their country. Letters of invitation can be sent out quickly if required. There will be a cash prize of $1000 US for the winner of the event.

The last Grand Champion was Indonesia with Japan winning the Best Booth Design and the Philippines winning the Best Single Costume in Performance.

The World Costume Festival 2016 will coincide with the Raniag, Vigan Twilight Festival 20-26 October, with events such as an electrified parade of floats, flight of the sky lanterns, street dancing, exhibits, acoustical competitions, art and skills workshops and candle floating. Come join the party by the largest computerized dancing fountain outside of Las Vegas.

May we extend our most cordial invitation to all international costume designers and artists to come and participate in the World Costume Festival 2016 in Vigan, Philippines, a UNESCO World Heritage Site - one the New 7 Wonder Cities of the World.
