World Stage Design (WSD) brings international practitioners, professionals, and students together to meet, share and exchange working practices from across the world. It celebrates the individual through open calls. It provides forums for sharing research, performance, and invention in both formal and informal contexts. It promotes collaboration and develops networks across continents. WSD is a project of the Organisation of International Scenographers Theatre Architects and Technicians (OISTAT).
World Stage Design Best Practice Handbook is designed as an introduction and guide for any individual or organization interested in hosting WSD. It sets out the parameters that are core to WSD and also offers opportunities for the proposal of new components. OISTAT members have shared their lived experience of hosting, planning, and attending WSD since its launch in 2005. In this document, the reader will find recommendations and suggestions for envisioning and executing WSD. However, this is not a prescription or set of rules, but rather a guide of what has been done and what could or should be considered by future WSD hosts.
OISTAT wishes WSD to continue to develop as it is hosted by more countries and cultures. This handbook is a useful tool for guiding communication between WSD organizers and the OISTAT Headquarters and larger community.
