▌ Introduction


OISTAT, the International Organisation of Scenographers, Theatre Architects and Technicians, was founded in Czechoslovakia in 1968, and relocated its headquarters to Taipei, Taiwan in 2006. For the past two decades, it has proudly based its headquarters in Taiwan, deepening global connections within the international theatre community.

To mark this milestone, OISTAT is partnering with the National Theater & Concert Hall in Taiwan to host the celebration event and symposium. We are honored to welcome cultural leaders from Brazil, Canada, the Czech Republic, Germany, and Serbia, and Taiwan to discuss global trends in theatre design, cross-cultural collaboration, and international festival curation.

How Can Theatre Practitioners Connect with the World?



How can theatre professionals create new paths and opportunities for international exchange through their expertise and global projects? In this session, arts leaders from the theatre field share their international experiences navigating new “wave-making paths” in cultural diplomacy. Learn their insights on today’s shifting international landscape and evolving technologies, and see how these observations have shaped their strategies and visions for cultural exchange in years ahead.

Panelists
 
Aby Cohen (Brazil)




Brazilian/Slovenian scenographer, artistic director, exhibition designer and curator. OISTAT President elected for the terms 2021-2029. Internationally recognized for her work in theatre, exhibition and film, with projects realized in more than 10 countries.  Awarded PQ Golden Triga in 2011 as designer and curator of Brazil's National Exhibition. Also representing Brazil at PQ2019 as the National Curator and founder of PQBrasil Platform (2017). PQ International Curator in 2015 for SharedSpace/Politics. Other international design awards include the IDCA 2013: Best Exhibition Layout for a project delivered to Tropenmuseum, Amsterdam. PhD in Theatre Theory and Practice, currently living and working in the UK as the Head of Postgraduate Department at Academy of Live Technology.

 

Joyce Y. Chiou (Taiwan)



 

General and Artistic Director of the National Theater & Concert Hall, Taiwan (R.O.C.) since April 2026. With an interdisciplinary background in music and theater, she has extensive experience in artistic programming, cultural exchange, and arts management. During her tenure as General and Artistic Director of the National Taichung Theater (NTT) from 2018 to 2026, Chiou pursued the vision of creating “A Theater for Arts and Life,” advancing artistic creation, cultural exchange, and sustainable governance. Previously, as Executive Director of the National Symphony Orchestra (NSO) from 2006 to 2018, she led the orchestra in expanding its international presence under the name “Taiwan Philharmonic.” Chiou is also actively engaged in international performing arts networks. She has served as a Board Member of the Association of Asia Pacific Performing Arts Centres (AAPPAC) since 2019 and was Chairperson of the Federation for Asian Cultural Promotion (FACP) from 2023 to 2025.


Wan-Jung Wei (Taiwan)




Wan-Jung Wei is OISTAT’s first Executive Director with a diplomatic background since the organization was established in 1968. While in her teenage years, she practiced hip -hop dancing and later transitioned to contemporary dance. With a belief in the commonality between diplomacy and performing arts of "creating dialogues in daily life," Wei explores the relationship between contemporary dance and society by writing dance critiques, with a particular focus on feminism and gender issues.  She earned her MA degree in Arts Politics from Tisch School of the Arts, New York University. She loves dogs.
