Innovative Costume of the XXI Century: The Next Generation
dedicated to the Year of Theatre in Russia and the 125th Anniversary of the A.A. Bakhrushin State Central Theatre Museum
The Symposium will focus on the artistic vocabulary formulated by a new generation of theatre and fashion designers, offering a platform for dialogue on topical issues in the field of modern costume design and making. It will be held in the framework of the international project Innovative Costume of the XXI Century: The Next Generation, which opens June 4, 2019 at the State Historical Museum in Moscow. 250 artists and designers from 50 countries will take part in the exhibition, which will feature the most original costume renderings, collages, photographs, computer projects, video and 3D costumes, implemented by designers and makers for opera, ballet, theatre, cinema, installation performance, and fashion.
The Symposium is open to theatre costume and fashion designers; researchers, collectors and fashion historians; museologists, cultural anthropologists, art critics; students and independent costume makers; theatre educators, curators of Theatre and Art museums, as well as representatives of the fashion industry.
On June 17, from 12:00 to 3:00 pm, the designers and scholars speaking at the Symposium will present their approaches to contemporary costume design, addressing innovative developments and ideas of our time.
On June 18, we invite our guests to joying us in celebrating the exhibition at 6:00 pm at the State Historical Museum.
On June 19, from 12:00 to 3:00 pm, there will be a discussion based on a critical analysis of the works presented at the exhibition, led by the guest speakers: Andrey Bartenev (Russia), Dr. Rachel Hann (UK), Pat Olezsko (USA), Mariaelena Roque (Spain), Nic Ularu (USA), Igor Roussanoff (USA) and Susan Tsu (USA).
Also during the Symposium, we invite you to the memorial garden of the A.A. Bakhrushin Theatre Museum, to enjoy evening costume performances by the guest artists.
