Dear members of the Technology Commission,
This is my first newsletter as chair of OISTAT Technology Commission. It is an exciting privilege to be in this position. First I would like to thank you for putting your trust in me and electing me as new chair.
I would like to extend a sincere thanks to Ivo Kersmaekers, for his outstanding leadership and commitment to the Technology Commission in past 8 years and to John Mayberry, for his valuable contribution during this period.
I also want to extend a warm welcome to our new Vice Chairs – Loren Schreiber and Andreas Bickel. I’m very happy that Loren and Andreas accepted the appointment to be Vice Chairs.
As you all know, we had TC meeting at Shanghai Theatre Academy in April. Fritz Schwentker compiled the minutes from TC meeting in Shanghai that you find attached here. (Thank you Fritz.)
One of important ongoing projects is International Standards Project, an initiative of Andreas Bickel and Laura van Haperen (the attached presentation gives an overview of the ISP project).
Second one is Technical Invention Prize project. New cycle for the TIP starts in 2015 and it will take place at WSD 2017 in Taipei. The list of other TC initiatives can be found in the minutes.
Here are some upcoming OISTAT activities:
- Theatre Timeline Group meeting in Antwerp, probably June 15th, 2014.;
- Conference “Wood and Canvas (and rabbit glue) in the Modern World”, June 12-15, 2014, Antwerp, http://woodandcanvas.info.yorku.ca/
- Beijing International Biennale 2014 (BIB 2014), International Stage Design Student Work Exchange, October 10-14, 2014.
I hope in the future we will work together on projects that will add value and quality to our commission and OISTAT.
