Born on 24 December 1939 and passed away in Schaarbeek on 16 May 2013
In 1964 Luc Dhooghe attained a degree in Architecture at the Higher Institute of Architecture Saint Lucas in Brussels. He studied at the Faculty of Architecture of the Zagreb University. Soon he started his own agency, in cooperation with Rose Werckx.
From 1977 onwards they both worked for a number of theatre companies as scenographers in set and costume design. In the area of theatre architecture they made different preliminary designs and won the first prize in the international architecture competition organized by OISTAT during PQ’83 on the subject “A theatre for touring companies”.
They have renovated theatres, including the much-discussed and very appreciated renovation of the Minard theatre in Ghent. In addition, they were regularly active as designers of exhibitions at home and abroad, including many Belgian PQ exhibits of which 1995 was awarded the silver medal to Belgium for excellent and original presentation of theatre architecture.
Luc stood at the cradle of BASTT, the Belgian Association of Scenographers and Theatre Technicians, and published regularly in the Belgian scenography magazine ProScenium.
From 1978 to 1998 Luc taught the craft of architecture and scenography at different colleges in Brussels. In 2008 he was one of the founders of the association Scenography, Theatre and Architecture (STA) Archives and Research.
Pure architecture and the relationship between play and space determined his quest.
