Open Call - Indian Textile Tour

Dear all,

OISTAT Performance Design Commission in collaboration with SGT University, India, is organizing a two week tour to five cities in India which are known for their textile manufacturing and special design on fabrics. The proposed cities are Amritsar (Punjab), Delhi, Jaipur (Rajasthan), Surat (Gujrat), and Banaras (Uttar Pradesh). The proposed dates of the tour are January 12 - 26, 2024.

This is an open call for OISTAT members from all the Sub-commissions of the Performance Design Commission. All the participants are required to support their travel, accommodation, food and any other related expenses. The Performance Design Commission will organize the tours to local industry, artisan hubs and sightseeing as will be discussed with the members.
 

A specially curated Fashion Show

The tour will comprise a specially curated fashion show in all the five cities of the costumes designed by the international and local costume/ fashion designer. A jury comprising the chairs of the costume design sub-commission, lighting design sub-commission, space design sub-commission, performance design commission and two costume designers from India will select the maximum of fifteen costume designers, two lighting designers, two space designers, and one sound designer who will be supported with local accommodation, local travel facilities and special meals, (local flights are not supported).
 

What is expected from selected designers?

• Each designer will bare their international flight ticket from their home country to Delhi and back.
• Each designer will bring at least one of their designed costumes to be included in the series of fashion shows that will be arranged in each city where they will visit.
• Each designer will conduct a workshop, masterclass or deliver a talk or presentation for the local students and artists.
• At the end of the tour, each designer will design a costume using Indian fabric, and the costume will be produced by the host organization.
• Space Designers, Lighting Designers and Sound Designers are expected to design space, lighting and sound for the fashion shows.

What is provided to selected international designers?

• Transportation by air-conditioned train, bus or taxis within India.
• Shared comfortable and clean accommodation in every city in India.
• Possibility of hosting meals.
• A space to run activities / workshops.
• A place for the culminating event, exhibition, performance installation, or any other form.
• Future making of their designed costume.
• Logistics for the fashion shows.

• January 20-21, 2024 – Surat (Jaipur to Surat by Flight)
• January 22-23, 2024 - Varanasi (Surat to Banaras by Flight)
• January 24-26, 2024 - Delhi (Banaras to Delhi by Flight)
• January 26, 2024 - Celebrate Republic Day
• January 26-27, 2024 - Departure
