DTHG Project - Weltenbauer Youngsters Award 2019

Mar 22, 2018

Berlin, 26 March 2018 – Almost everyone knows Leonardo da Vinci as the painter of the Mona Lisa. However, the Italian artist was also interested in sculpting, architecture, anatomy, mechanics, engineering and natural philosophy. As such, he was a natural talent and to this day remains an inspiration to artists, theatre professionals and creators of exhibitions. In 2019, as the 500th anniversary of his death approaches, the Weltenbauer.Youngsters.Awards will also be recognising this all-round talent. Following its successful launch at Stage|Set|Scenery last year, in 2019 Deutsche Theatertechnische Gesellschaft (DTHG) and Messe Berlin will be honouring industry newcomers with the Weltenbauer.Youngsters.Awards. Wesko Rohde, chairman of the board of DTHG: “Our theatre and event venues need innovative and passionately creative minds both on stage and behind the scenes, who can produce outstanding events that fascinate audiences. With the Weltenbauer.Youngsters.Awards, the DTHG aims to give these young talents, who work in a constantly changing profession, the opportunity to present themselves and be discovered and promoted.”

The search is on for creative stage design, make-up, costume or video works on the subject of Leonardo da Vinci from students and trainees in the theatre, film and event technology industry. A jury will select the ten best works which will be presented at Stage|Set|Scenery 2019. The jury, which is made up of the DTHG board members Olaf Grambow, Arved Hammerstädt and Wesko Rohde, the Stage|Set|Scenery project management of Messe Berlin and Karin Winkelsesser of Bühnentechnische Rundschau, will award two prizes. Visitors to Stage|Set|Scenery will decide on a further prize. They will include two money prizes of 1,000 euros each, sponsored by Messe Berlin GmbH, a hotel overnight and ticket to a musical in Hamburg worth 500 euros, sponsored by A.Haussmann GmbH, as well as ten one-year subscriptions to the magazine Bühnentechnische Rundschau, sponsored by Der Theaterverlag – Friedrich Berlin GmbH. Juliane Trempler, the project manager of Stage|Set|Scenery: “With these awards we aim to give industry newcomers the opportunity to showcase their talents to a wider and international professional audience at Stage|Set|Scenery 2019.“

Talented newcomers interested in taking part are invited to submit their entries online via the website at www.stage-set-scenery.com no later than 28 February 2019. The awards presentation will take place at Stage|Set|Scenery on the Safety in Action stage in Hall 22 in Berlin on Tuesday, 18 June 2019 at 6.30 p.m.
