Stage|Set|Scenery: Messe Berlin and DTHG present a new trade fair concept and expand the International Stage Technology Conference

Aug 30, 2013

Berlin, 29 August 2013 – Today, the team of Werner Mocke, director at Messe Berlin and project manager of Stage|Set|Scenery, presented the new concept of Stage|Set|Scenery at the symposium of Deutsche Theatertechnische Gesellschaft (DTHG). Taking place at the Palais am Funkturm on the Berlin Exhibition Grounds (ExpoCenter City), the event was attended by around 100 members of DTHG and invited guests. The international trade fair Stage|Set|Scenery – World of Entertainment Technology will debut from 9 to 11 June 2015 in Halls 1 to 4.

The new concept of this bi-annual trade fair consists of targeting new markets and audiences, attracting international participation and expanding the conference. In addition to a new hall concept Stage|Set|Scenery will also provide new services for exhibitors and visitors.

New markets and audiences
The trade fair for theatre planners, film, stage, lighting, sound, video and media technology, make-up, costume design, and stage-set design, will now also include architecture, acoustics, audio, exhibition and museum technology, thus enabling Stage|Set|Scenery to attract new trade visitor segments to this event.

International appeal
In order for Stage|Set|Scenery to increase its international appeal the aim is to attract even more participants and trade visitors from abroad. As a result, Stage|Set|Scenery will be cooperating with Messe Berlin’s global network of 85 foreign representatives in 150 countries and together with this team will be taking part in international industry events. Efforts to attract international participation also include collaboration with the partner organisations of DTHG: both the International Organisation of Scenographers, Theatre Architects and Technicians (OISTAT) as well as national organisations from the USA (USITT), the Netherlands (VPT), Belgium (STEPP), Austria (MEET OETHG) and Switzerland (SVBT-ASTT).

The conference expands
The International Stage Technology Conference organised by DTHG is an integral part of Stage|Set|Scenery and is also set to expand. Dr. Gabriele Högg, member of the board of DTHG: "Stage|Set|Scenery will enable DTHG to establish its conference on the international market and to intensify its collaboration with international trade associations. By cooperating closely with Messe Berlin, our new partner, we will be able to represent the interests of these associations on behalf of our members. I look forward to this trend-setting challenge for DTHG, which will give us a chance to exploit old and new ideas."

Comments on Stage|Set|Scenery:
Reinhold Daberto, theaterprojekte daberto + kollegenplanungsgesellschaftmbh: "DTHG asked its members to accompany it to Stage|Set|Scenery and that is what its members will do."

Gaby Werkman, Trekwerk, Netherlands: "As a member of DTHG and due to our confidence in the association’s decision-making we are very receptive to the concept of Stage|Set|Scenery. For us Berlin is an important venue and strengthening the event’s international appeal is a significant element of this new collaboration. We look forward to taking part."

Horst Kunkel, Kunkel Consulting International GmbH: "As international planners, attending trade fairs with conferences is part of our global activities. The conferences give us an opportunity to present our projects to a wide range of audiences in countries all over the world. The decision to establish Stage|Set|Scenery, which combines a trade fair and conference in Germany, is both logical and important and provides an attractive venue for visitors from all sectors. We look forward to supporting DTHG as its initiator."

Jörg Kümmel, managing director, Müller-BBM International GmbH: "In the past, as planners, being an integral part of and participating in an outstanding international programme of conference events organised by DTHG was our primary motivation for taking part in SHOWTECH. As we personally invite our national and international customers to both the trade fair and the stand of MBBM the name of the trade fair is only of secondary importance to us. However, we would not wish to be without DTHG at future events."

Siegfried Stäblein, honorary chairman of DTHG: "After almost 30 years of SHOWTECH a re-assessment of developments within the industry is surely not a bad idea. The opposite has been the case and as such it is now necessary. This is what DTHG stands for, as the association representing the theatre, film, television, shows and events."

Exhibitors have until 1 December 2013 to make sure of their Early
Bird discount and reserve a stand.
