TTLA-TELA (The Theatres of Latin America) is an international research project which promotes historical and architectural research of the Latin-American theatres and their deep connections with European theatres. The organization of meetings promoting the exchange and discussion of knowledge regarding this area is part of the program of the project TTLA-TELA. With this goal in mind, a second International Symposium (after the one which took place in Setubal, Portugal in May 2017) is going to take place on the subject:

This time the multidisciplinary approach and the scientific level of the TTLA-TELA project will be kept due to the inclusion of experts on several fields of knowledge with the objective of focusing on the revision of the several paths on the Atlantic Oceans for carrying merchandise but which also served to transport theatre companies, architects, plans and experiences with presence on the several visited points, the corral de comedias and the coliseum as meeting points during the period of this complex cultural exchange. On the other hand, the symposium will be a place for the exhibition and reporting of several theatrical spaces of which there are no more traces or may have suffered remodeling, modifications or destruction. Other point of interest will be the situation of the several theatrical venues as urban referents in the Atlantic cities.
In particular, the architectonic case of the city of Merida is pertinent due to its diversity of scenic genres and as architectonic settlement since the late 18th century until the 21st century. Due to the proposed theme for the symposium, Merida was chosen because its location as one of the most important cultural exchange places for the mobility of theatre, circus and opera companies.
We would like to have your presence in order to give us your experience, vision and knowledge about the topic of this symposium. Each participant has 20 minutes to present a short piece, which can be supported by images (video, PowerPoint or others).
The organization covers accommodation and ground transportation from Cancun to Mérida for those participants who wish to reach this destination. There is also the possibility to get to Mexico City and transfer by flight to the city of Merida. For those arriving in Cancun, the transport will transfer them on November 27 at 2:00 pm to go to Mérida (two hours travel approximately).
The Symposium will be sponsored by the Coordination of Humanities and the School of Philosophy and Letters of UNAM, the Higher School of Arts of Yucatan (ESAY), the TELA Mexico group and the OISTAT (International Organization of Scenographers, Technicians and Theater Architects).
